Built for Robert and Marieke Burgers (their last of 12 personal homes built in West Vancouver), this house gracefully deals with the challenge of living on the busy Fulton Avenue with a generously proportioned home orchard in its rear yard. Featuring everything from blueberries to figs, this garden is not only a quiet refuge but also a functional part of daily life.
The dramatically pitched roof maximizes interior height while large gutters collect the abundant West Coast rainwater, which drains into an underground cistern. As the home’s primary water source, this system collects and filters rainwater to drinking standards, to be used both as irrigation and for daily use.
